Launch at the Law Society

The first of many events for the BTLA took place on 3rd of October 2005 at the Law Society to coincide with the start of the negotiations for Turkish membership of the EU, and as part of the Opening Legal Year celebrations. 
Many lawyers attended the event from Turkey and UK.  The President of the Law Society and the general secretary of the Turkish Bar Association made welcome speeches.  The event was a very successful start for the BTLA, as many of those joined became members of the BTLA.

Alternative Dispute Resolution

The British Turkish Lawyers Association (BTLA) and the Law Society of England & Wales in association with the British Consulate General in Istanbul organized a seminar on 18-19 March 2008 at the British Consulate General, Istanbul on the subject of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).

ADR is a method which is a faster way of resolving disputes with lower costs and autonomy of the parties over the matter.

The first day of the seminar (Tuesday, 18 March) focused on mediation while the second day (Wednesday, 19 March) was on arbitration.

Experts from the UK and Turkish professionals gave presentations about the subject.

Arbitration Clinic - Workshop (12 June 2009 British Consulate General, Istanbul)

As a joint event by the British Turkish Lawyers Association (BTLA) and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) European Branch, this workshop will be run to provide Turkish lawyers with training and practical input on preparing for and running an arbitration case.


The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) is the world's leading professional body for promoting the settlement of disputes by arbitration, mediation and other private dispute resolution methods and a notfor- profit, UK registered charity with a global membership of around 12,000 individuals. The European Branch of the CIArb, chaired by Axel Reeg, is a grouping of members of the Institute, practitioners and academics, who share an interest in arbitration and dispute resolution in Europe.

UIA Congress (October 30 - November 3, 2010 Istanbul, Turkey)

The Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA - International Association of Lawyers) is pleased to inform the forthcoming congress that will tale place in Istanbul from October 30 to November 3, 2010.

UIA organises every year an international congress of lawyers, open to all law professionals from all around the globe.

Always held in great cities of the world (Seville, Paris, San Salvador de Bahia, Fes, Geneva, etc.), the UIA congresses gather about 1,200 lawyers to discuss some topical issues in the legal practice.

Three international legal issues will be the focus of all the discussions:

Turkey law firms inward visit (October 26 -28, 2011 London, UK)

The Law Society UK-Turkish programme, 26 - 28 October 2011 in London, is designed to update attendees on opportunities in the Turkish market, establish links and help UK firms develop business relations with Turkish law firms.

The Turkish programme is a three day event which includes seminars, networking events and time for one-to-one business meetings. It offers firms from Turkey and the UK the opportunity to develop new contacts, raise their firm profile and gather market intelligence.

It will take place in London on 26th, 27th & 28th October. The Deputy Vice President of the Law Society will host a networking reception in the evening of 27th October.

Time slots will be available for law firms to arrange bilateral business meeting (the registered firms will be profiled in a visit brochure sent to participants in advance to arrange one-to-one meetings with the visiting lawyers that match their interests).

Capital Markets in the 21st Century (December 7, 2011 London, UK)

The Law Society's International Division and the American Bar Association Section of International Law are organising a joining event on capital markets in London.
